A cool, cloudy morning greeted the Seahawks on the 8th day of their training camp at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton.
Russell Wilson performed well in red zone drills, connecting twice with tight end Cooper Helfet on touchdown throws. Wilson also hooked up on a 40 to 45 yard pass with former Washington Husky Jermaine Kearse.
Quarterback Brady Quinn struggled a bit during his chances to run the offense. He was picked off twice, once in the end zone by safety Earl Thomas.
At the end of practice, punter/holder Jon Ryan executed a fake field goal pass for a touchdown to tight end Sean McGrath. Ryan told me afterwards he enjoys when coach Pete Carroll calls the “fire drill” play because it keeps the training camp workouts fun.
Carroll told reporters the Percy Harvin hip surgery went well. Doctors would like Harvin to remain in New York for a couple weeks before returning to Seattle. The coach is optimistic Harvin might be able to play for the Seahawks later this season.
A number of front line players remain out of the practice due to injuries. Running back Robert Turbin , tight end Zach Miller, and rookie corner Tharold Simon are all dealing with foot issues. Linebacker Bobby Wagner and defensive end Cliff Avril are among other notable players held out of the workouts.
Some recognizable basketball people attended today’s session. Toronto Raptors head man Dwane Casey, and Portland Trailblazers head coach Terry Stotts took in the practice. Both men were assistant coaches for the Seattle Supersonics.
