BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A Boise man convicted for placing an ad on Craigslist offering sex with a 3-year-old girl that he also sexually abused has been ordered to spend 30 years in a federal prison.
U.S. District Judge Edward Lodge issued the penalty Tuesday against Jason Lloyd Schaber, 40, on felony charges of sexual exploitation of children and distribution of sexually explicit images of minors.
At sentencing, Lodge told Schraber the case was one of the most “insidious and heinous” he’s seen in 50 years on the bench.
“Mr. Schaber well deserves the lengthy sentence the court imposed,” U.S. Attorney Wendy Olson said. “His horrific conduct victimized an innocent child.”
Schaber was arrested in May 2012 for placing an ad in the “Casual Encounters” section of Craigslist offering the toddler for sex. A man who responded to the ad called police after learning the girl was 3.
Court records said Schaber’s computers contained videos of him having sexual contact with the girl.
Schaber was originally charged in Idaho’s 4th District Court before the case moved to federal court. A grand jury indicted him on 23 federal charges, most of them related to making and distributing child pornography. The plea agreement was filed in court on May 20.
