(1090 The Fan) — Despite all the drama surrounding Eric Wedge’s future, fans who roll into Safeco Field tonight will more than likely be rewarded.
Being that it is Fan Appreciation Night — a night when countless prizes are given out to the Mariner faithful — coupled with an average attendance that hovers around 13,000 for the month of September, the odds of taking home a gift are decent. And on top of winning something for yourself, you may just catch a Felix Hernandez gem.
King Felix returns to the Safeco Field mound for his final start of the 2013 season against Bartolo Colon and the postseason-bound Oakland Athletics.
Seattle’s ace had been sidelined for nearly three weeks before this past Sunday’s contest against the Angels due to a strained left oblique. It looked as though Felix’s rest was just what the doctor ordered base of his ten strikeouts over four innings in the 3-2 win.
The right-hander needs to last 1 2/3 innings Friday to finish with his sixth straight season of at least 200.
Seattle relished its role of spoiler this week, as it took two of three from Kansas City to end the Royals’ slim postseason hopes. Surprisingly, the Mariners have won three of four overall and are 10-6 versus the A’s this season.
