ANACORTES, Wash. (CBS Seattle/AP) — Police in Anacortes are digging into their own pockets and putting up a $250 reward to help catch the vandal who has been attacking police cars in the parking lot at headquarters.
Police told KOMO-TV the bold vandal has struck three times, scratching cars and slashing tires, causing about $6,000 in damage.
“Whoever it was was pretty brazen,” Anacortes Police Capt. Lou D’Amelio told the station.
After one incident a police dog followed a scent to bicycle tracks in wet grass, but the trail went cold. Police say surveillance video also hasn’t identified a suspect.
“These cars are here to serve the public,” D’Amelio went on to say. “That’s really what they’re for. And so anybody who damages them just damages our ability to do that job.”
