Mariners Decline 2014 Options On Gutierrez And Saunders

(1090 The Fan) — The Franklin Gutierrez era in Seattle is likely over.

On Friday, Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik announced that Gutierrez’s option for 2014 had been declined, thus making him a free agent.

The injury-prone outfielder appeared in less than 500 games for the Mariners in five seasons — just 173 in the past three seasons. Though Gutierrez won a Gold Glove in 2010, his six separate stints on the disabled list will be his legacy as a Mariner.

The team also declined the option of lefty Joe Saunders. The 32-year-old pitcher went 11-16 with a 5.26 ERA in 32 starts for Seattle.

Right-handed pitcher Stephen Pryor has been reinstated from the 60-day disabled list.
