(CBS Seattle) — Seattle police nabbed two suspected burglars Friday night (Nov. 1) in the central district after one tried to roof-jump his way to freedom.
A neighbor called 911 around 9 p.m. and told dispatchers he heard glass breaking and saw two men entering a nearby house, according to SPD’s blotter. When officers arrived at the 400 block of 21st Avenue, the suspects ran. Police caught up with one of the men a short time later and arrested him.
A King County Sheriff’s helicopter zeroed in on the second suspect who had climbed up on a roof to try and escape. At about :30 in, the camera zooms into the clearly visible white form of a man on the roof. It appears as though he lays down to keep from being seen from the ground.
The helicopter continues following the suspect from the air. At about 2:55 into the video, the man jumps over to the roof of another house, then another, then lands on a third roof. The suspect looks as if he’s about to jump to a fourth house, but then changes his mind. He turns around and raises his hands into the air and climbs down to the ground where officers are waiting.
Both suspects were arrested and booked into the King County jail.
There was a broken sliding glass door at the victim’s house, but it’s not clear if anything was taken.
