(1090 The Fan) — The group of candidates looking to become the next Seattle Mariners manager is thinning, according to CBS Sports Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.
Heyman reports Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach became the third known finalist for the job. Wallach joins two other coaches from winning organizations — A’s bench coach Chip Hale and Tigers hitting coach Lloyd McClendon — as second interviewees. Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reported Monday about McClendon’s status as a finalist.
Ex-Mariners Dave Valle and Joey Cora are also reportedly in the mix, but there’s no word on whether they’re serious contenders. General Manager Jack Zduriencik has declined to comment on any of the candidates, though a decision is expected by the end of the week.
