Wardley Misses Second Game For Seattle Due To Suspension
(1090 The Fan) — Seattle was without defenseman Evan Wardley for the second straight game as Wardley serves a 4-game suspension for his hit on a Portland player November 1st.
Wardley received the suspension for charging prior to last Saturday’s 5-0 loss to Everett. He is scheduled to return for Seattle on Friday, November 15th against Victoria.
The Thunderbirds missed Wardley in their defensive rotation Friday night, as they fell behind Victoria early and couldn’t make up the deficit. By the third period, Seattle was playing just Shea Theodore, Jared Hauf, Adam Henry and Jerret Smith on its defensive shifts.
Wardley, 19, has been the team’s most physical defensive player. He has three points in 12 games thus far.
Eric Benoit was a healthy scratch against Victoria, with Seattle head coach Steve Konowalchuk trying to look at some other players up front. “We have a lot of extra bodies, so we are assessing every game who is in and out,” said Konowalchuk…Speaking of players being out, Seattle forward Connor Honey missed his 12th game as he works to return from injury…T-Birds goalie Danny Mumaugh relieved starter Justin Myles in the second period of Friday’s loss, posting 11 saves on 12 shots in 35 minutes…Seattle rookie forward Mathew Barzal came through with an assist against Victoria, his first point in the past six games. Barzal’s last point came against Swift Current on October 19th.
