(1090 The Fan) — For Mariners fans, it’s hard to hear the Major League Baseball rumor mill at work right now because of all the excitement the other team in town is bringing.
Nevertheless, it’s apparent Seattle will be trying to land a power-hitting outfielder this offseason, preferably a right-handed bat. And, as the Winter Meetings get closer, we’re hearing all kinds of reports, speculations and rumors about who might be wearing a Mariners uniform in 2014.
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com tweeted today that the Mariners are inclined to go after Carlos Beltran, Jhonny Peralta and Kendrys Morales. FOX Sports’ Jon Paul Morosi reiterated Seattle’s interest in Cruz via Twitter as well. Joel Sherman of the New York Post wrote Mike Napoli may be in the mix too — though Napoli’s primary positions are first base and catcher.
Stepping away from offense … 1090 The Fan’s Jason A. Churchill speculated last month about the possibility of the Mariners landing Tigers starting pitchers Rick Porcello or Max Scherzer. While it seemed unlikely at the time Scherzer would be dealt, CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman tweeted Monday that Detroit would be listening to offers for either pitcher.
What rumors have you heard so far that would make sense for Seattle? What can benefit the team the most?
