(1090 The Fan) — The “Seattle-Robinson Cano” talk has been active all week. But, on Thursday, things got really interesting.
CBS Baseball Insider Jon Heyman reports that the Mariners are about to offer a $225 million, nine-year deal to the five-time All-Star. Heyman says the Mariners have “bumped” a first bid of around $200 million, and one person familiar with the talks said they intended to be $50 million above the New York Yankees. According to previous reports, New York has stated its cap for Cano was about $175 million.
If this comes to fruition, the $225 deal would be among the top deals in baseball history.
Cano is reportedly on his way to Seattle to meet with the Mariners after letting his agents, including Brodie Van Wagenen, handle the first meeting, according to Rojas and Ken Rosenthal of Foxsports.com.
