TUMWATER, Wash. (CBS Seattle) – A local teenager was taken into police custody after he reportedly threatened a mass shooting at his school.

The unnamed 14-year-old boy is said to have discussed his violent plans for Black Hills High School students and staff with a friend, who then alerted the authorities, KIRO-TV is reporting.

“He made threats about coming to the school and doing a mass shooting,” Thurston County Deputy Prosecutor Wayne Graham was quoted as saying.

When police subsequently searched his home, they found the boy to be in possession of multiple firearms, including an assault rifle, a shotgun and a handgun, as well as ammunition and gunpowder.

Fireworks that could have been re-purposed into explosives were also found at the home, the station learned.

Graham added, “He had done a lot of research in regards to the Columbine shooting and he had indicated he admired the two men involved in that.”

The teen is presently being held based on probable cause for two counts each of felony harassment and illegal possession of a firearm. He will additionally have to undergo a mental health evaluation, as per the orders of a Thurston County juvenile court judge assigned to the case.
