(CBS Seattle/AP) — An iron worker died Monday after falling 50 feet from a building near the Space Needle.
Workers at the construction site at 101 Taylor Avenue North told KING 5 it was the 31-year-old man’s first day on the job. One worker said the man unclipped his safety gear as he was moving around on scaffolding on the top of the building and tripped over some equipment.
The Seattle Fire Department said the man, who has not been identified, was taken to Harborview Medical Center but he was unconscious and had no pulse when medics reached him.
According to KING 5, the state Department of Labor and Industries inspected the site in November over concerns about “fall protection,” but that investigation found no violations. The department is investigating this incident.
