(CBS Seattle) — Another romantic comedy is bringing love-lorn tourists to the Emerald City in search of love, 20 years after Sleepless in Seattle. But this time they’re coming from much farther away than New York City.
This time, the romantic comedy is a Chinese film called Finding Mr. Right. It’s about- you guessed it- a woman who journeys more than 6,000 miles from China to Seattle looking for love and it’s sparked a travel frenzy.
In a clip from the movie provided to ABC News, an American man in a uniform asks a Chinese woman why she came to Seattle. She replies, “Sleepless in Seattle. I love that movie!”
Now Chinese women are flying across an entire ocean, hoping life might imitate art. Janet Christopher with Visit Seattle told ABC News, “We have been amazed at the response. This has been bigger than Sleepless in Seattle. All of these young women can relate and they want to see if they can find their Mr. Right.”
Chinese tv programs are even running features about Seattle; one clip showed the ubiquitous scene of a smiling tourist catching a flying fish at Pike Place Market. Another show follows tourists around as they visit places locations from the movie.
According to ABC, official statistics show more than 150,000 single men in our city, so the odds seem to be good that at least a few people will find their soul mates.
