(1090 The Fan) — Justin Hickman scored a late third period goal to lift Seattle to an eventual 3-2 win against Kamloops, Saturday night.

Seattle (28-14-2-3) won its sixth straight game behind another excellent game between the pipes for newly acquired goalie Taran Kozun.

Kozun, 19, faced his former team after posting back-to-back shutouts to debut as a Thunderbird. He was unable to make it three consecutive shutouts, however he was just as impressive in coming up with 30 saves.

The Thunderbirds opened up a 2-0 lead thanks to first period goals from Roberts Lipsbergs and Kevin Wolf. Lipsbergs scored his team-leading 27th goal on Seattle’s first power play of the night at 10:19.

Wolf notched his first goal of the season when he beat Kamloops goalie Bolton Pouliot after a nice pass from Mitch Elliot. Pouliot finished with 27 saves for the Blazers.

Kamloops cut into the lead in the second period when Joe Kornelsen scored the first of his two goals at the 17:42 mark on a power play after T-Birds forward Jaimen Yakubowski got sent to the penalty box for roughing.

The T-Birds, though, maintained a 2-1 lead deep into the third period before Hickman scored his 13th goal of the season to put his team ahead two scores with just over five minutes remaining.

Kornelsen would net a second power-play goal with less than a minute to play, but it was too little, too late as Seattle held on for the win which moved the team into fourth place in the Western Conference standings with 61 points.

Seattle returns home to face Moose Jaw, Tuesday.
