My 27- year old son and I went to the auto show last year and walked past this 2014 Buick Lacrosse. I said that’s a nice car, and he agreed. Then I said, you know it’s a Buick right? He said Buicks are for old people. That hurt. And I set him straight.

I think this is a beautiful four-door sedan. Buick has done a little tweaking for the new model year. The waterfall grill is new, as well as the entire front end. These are the optional new LED daytime running lights. The rear end has had some work done too including the LED taillights and an updated trunk lid with a subtle rear spoiler.

And all Lacrosse’s get active grill shuttle that close at higher speeds to help in the fuel consumption department. Speaking of, average fuel economy is 18 cities and 28 highways for the 304-hp, 3.6-liter V-6 with a seamless six-speed transmission. You can go for the 182-horsepower 4 with electric assist.

Modern Buicks are known for being quiet. How do they accomplish the serenity? They call it Quiet Tuning. And that involves special laminate glass for the windshield and front side glass sound deadeners and more. All that stuff works.

The interior looks and feels upscale. GM used to get a lot of flack for boring monotone materials and lousy fit and finish. Not anymore. The plastics are nice and soft, the leather is supple and the seats feel just right. Some of the color combinations like this blue stitching might be a little too much for some, but it isn’t boring. I should mention the interior lighting on the Lacrosse is awesome and so is the 8-inch color infotainment screen. GM has come a long way.

If a Buick badge doesn’t turn you off and if you are looking for a roomy, quite well built mid-sized sedan and you, this 2014 Lacrosse should be on your radar.

Price as tested, $45,595.00 dollars.
