(1090 The Fan) — Dustin Ackley will be the first one to admit he needs to shake out of the funk he’s had at the plate for the better part of the past two seasons with the Mariners. Shortly after reporting to Peoria for Spring Training, the former No. 2 pick in 2009 Major League Baseball Draft said his “head wasn’t right” following his outstanding first year in the big leagues.
Thanks to a suggestion from former teammate Raul Ibanez, Ackley began reading parts of the book “The Mental Game of Baseball” last season. Just reading small passages made Ackley realize he needed to get out of his head. So while he was learning to play the outfield at Triple-A Tacoma, he was also rehabilitating his mind.
