(1090 The Fan) — Washington closed its regular season and said a home farewell to one of its all-time leading scorers with a 82-75 win over USC, Saturday.
Playing in his final game at the Alaska Airlines Arena, Washington (17-14, 9-9) senior C.J. Wilcox scored 24 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had three steals to lead the Huskies. Andrew Andrews added 19 points and freshman point guard Nigel Williams-Goss had seven points and nine assists.
A 15-0 run to begin the second half, carried the Huskies past a USC team that had won just two of its two of its past 17 games. Washington got out to a slow start against the Trojans’ 2-3 zone, shooting just 32 percent from the field and went into the break trailing USC 37-35.
It was a different story for Washington immediately as the second half commenced. The Huskies scored 15 unanswered points within the first four minutes spurred by the shooting of Wilcox and Andrews, to surge in front 50-37.
USC (11-20, 2-16) closed to within five points at 72-67 with under five minutes to play behind its full-court pressure. In spite of the effort, the Trojans never quite recovered from the poor second-half start and Washington earned the regular-season concluding win.
Nikola Jovanovich scored 21 points and Byron Wesley finished with 19 points to lead USC.
Washington will play in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament on Wednesday.
