(CBS Seattle) — A truck struck and killed a 2-year-old boy Monday in Pierce County, according to KIRO 7.
The vehicle veered off Highway 410 near Buckley and continued onto a paved biking trail. The truck hit the toddler — who was being pulled in a wagon by his father — before crashing into a nearby utility pole.
A number of witnesses rushed to the boy’s aid, including a former paramedic and firefighter, but all were unsuccessful in reviving the child who ultimately died from his injuries.
The 78-year-old driver of the truck cannot recall exactly how he ended up on the trail.
Though alcohol was not a factor in the deadly crash, police believe prescription drugs may have played a role.
