Nevertheless, through 20 games, the Mariners’ current leadoff hitter, Abraham Almonte is causing grumbling among Mariners fans for his performance at the top of the lineup so far. In his 90 plate appearances, he has an on-base percentage of .267 (backed by a batting average of .224).
Almonte’s speed could be an argument for why he remains in the number one spot, however, if he only gets on base one out of every four at bats, it’s unlikely we’ll see that speed put to use.
