(1090 The Fan) – Kyle Seager has been absolutely scorching at the plate in the past week, going 9-for-22 with 11 RBI behind five home runs. Seager’s hot bat is being noticed around Major League Baseball and is exactly why he has been named the American League Co-Player of the Week for April 21-27.
Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu also received the honor.
Seager tallied four straight multi-hit efforts and hit a home run in three games — including two multi-home run games (April 23 vs. Houston & 27 vs. Texas). Over his last 13 games he is hitting .304 (14×46) with nine runs, one double, five home runs, 12 RBI and a 1.012 OPS. On Wednesday, he accounted for all five Mariners runs in a 5-3 win including a two-run home run in the seventh inning and a walk-off three-run shot in the 9th inning that gave him a career-high 5 RBI. Seager homered on Saturday against Texas before hitting two more on Sunday against the Rangers including the go-ahead three-run home run in the eighth inning on Sunday.
During the week, he was tied for the American League lead with five home runs and ranked third with 11 RBI while leading the Majors with a 1.091 slugging percentage and a 1.549 OPS.
This is Kyle’s first career weekly honor, and it is the first Player of the Week honor for the Mariners since Brad Miller earned the honor on July 22, 2013.
