(1090 The Fan) — At 29 games into the season, the Seattle Mariners sit a game under .500 (14-15) and are four games behind the first-place Oakland Athletics.
In some areas, the Mariners are performing better than expected — most notably having the fourth-best team ERA and WHIP in the American League despite the absence of Hisashi Iwakuma for the entire month of April. Taijuan Walker and James Paxton are also still on the disabled list.
And, as expected, the Mariners are under-performing in some areas — Seattle has only mustered up 234 hits to date (30 below the American League average). The Mariners also have the second-worst batting average among AL teams (.234).
But even at 14-15, the Mariners’ start has been encouraging; Kyle Seager earned Co-American League Player of the Week last week; Roenis Elias has surprised the league with his four-seam fastball; and Robinson Cano has not felt the pressure playing under a monster contract (.293/.341/.388).
So, we want to know: Who would you consider to be the Mariners’ MVP so far?
