(1090 The Fan) — Pitcher Erasmo Ramirez was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma and has been named the starter for the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader in Oakland against the Athletics.
With the move, Ramirez becomes the 26th member of the roster. Teams are permitted to have an extra player available on the 25 man roster for a doubleheader, according to Major League Baseball rules.
The 24-year-old is 1-3 with a 6.75 ERA (18 ER, 24.0 IP) in five starts this season. After earning the win in the Mariners second game of the season against the Los Angeles Angels, Ramirez went into a slump going 0-3 with a 8.47 ERA (16 ER, 17.0 IP) over his last 4 starts.
Ramirez made two starts in the minors after being optioned on April 23. He started for High-A High Desert on April 27, before being transferred to the Tacoma Rainiers and starting on May 2 against Las Vegas. In those two outings he combined to post a 4.63 ERA (6 ER, 11.1 IP) with 15 strikeouts.
