SEATTLE (CBS Seattle) – Science may not have all the answers…but at least it can tell us how best to enjoy a hamburger.
Gaming website Kotaku reports that a Japanese television show brought on 3 scientists, experts in fluid mechanics, engineering and dentistry, to demonstrate the most efficient method consuming a large burger without the contents leaking or falling out.
They built a 3D model of a burger and tried to figure out how all the ingredients, burger patty, buns, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and ketchup (your burger may vary) moved around while being eaten.
Eating a burger the usual way, with thumbs on the bottom and fingers on the top, pushes the ingredients out of the bun.
The best way, the researchers say, is to put both your thumbs and pinkie fingers on the bottom and hold the top with your 3 middle fingers. It’s important not to hold the hamburger too tightly.
This will prevent the contents from sliding out the backside of the burger, they concluded.
The dental expert also recommended stretching the muscled in your mouth, by opening and closing it a few times, before attempting to eat a large hamburger.
