Woman Shot And Wounded By Sheriff’s Deputy

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (AP) — A Kitsap County sheriff’s spokesman says a reportedly suicidal 46-year-old woman has been shot and wounded by a sheriff’s deputy at a home in the south part of the county.

Deputy Scott Wilson says the unidentified woman was taken to a Tacoma hospital Monday evening. Her condition was not known.

Wilson says deputies reported that the woman had fired one shot that she said was a warning. A crisis negotiator had begun attempting to talk to the woman by phone when deputies radioed that gunshots had been fired and the woman was injured.

The deputy involved has been placed on leave while the Washington State Patrol investigates.

Wilson says the woman’s husband had called for help, saying his wife had threatened to harm herself.
