TACOMA, Wash. (CBS Seattle) – A surveillance video obtained by KCPQ showed a Tacoma Police patrol car running over a Joint Base Lewis-McChord solider in the middle of the road.

Emanuel Andrade is in critical condition at Tacoma’s St. Joseph Hospital.

The video shows Andrade lying in the middle of the street and the police car running him over.

“They dragged him down the street, that’s even worse,” Susana Andrade, Emanuel’s wife, told the station.

It is not known why Andrade was lying in the middle of the street.

Tacoma police told KCPQ that the officer was running license plates on his computer just before the accident.

“It was totally unintentional; he feels horrible,” Loretta Cool, Tacoma police spokeswoman, told the station. “There wasn’t distracted driving; they looked and he didn’t see the person.”

Susana wants the officer held responsible. “I want him off the job, if it was intentional or unintentional, there is no excuse for that,” she said.

Susana feels that the police department is not keeping her up to date. “They haven’t told me nothing, she said. They haven’t even come by to check up on my husband.”

The Tacoma police department has opened up an investigation of the incident but have yet to question the officer involved.  The officer is currently on paid leave while the investigation is ongoing.

“If it was somebody else, a regular person, I am pretty sure that regular person who ran over my husband would be sitting in jail right now,” Susan said.

Emanule has served in Afghanistan and was set for his release next month.
