SEATTLE (AP) — The Weather Service says a Northwest heat wave will last into the middle of next week.
Forecasters have issued an excessive heat watch for the weekend in the Seattle metro area, meaning the prolonged period of high temperatures could cause heat-related illnesses and accidents. Highs in Seattle are expected in the 80s to low 90s and overnight lows in the upper 60s.
The rest of Western Washington will feel the same heat, except the coast where highs are expected in the 70s. Eastern Washington will be hotter with highs breaking 100 in places.
Oregon is baking under the same heat with highs in the mid to upper 90s forecast in Portland, Salem and Eugene.
Forecasters expect highs in eastern Oregon over 100. Some thunderstorms are possible Sunday.
