(1090 The Fan) — Chalk up another Mariners player heading to the Midsummer Classic: Closer Fernando Rodney will replace David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays on the American League’s active roster for the 85th All-Star Game on Tuesday.
With the nod, Rodney is now a two-time All-Star.
In his first year in Seattle, the 37-year-old has posted a 1.98 ERA and an A.L-leading 27 saves in 37 games. The Dominican Republic native has struck out 42 batters in 36.1 innings (29 H, 12 BB).
Rodney joins teammates Felix Hernandez, Robinson Cano and Kyle Seager on the A.L.’s active roster.
