Report: Seattle Has Discussed Trades For Zobrist, Price, Others

(1090 The Fan) — Trade talks surrounding the Seattle Mariners are beginning to heat up as Major League Baseball’s trade deadline inches closer.

CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman says the Mariners have been trying to work out a deal with the Tampa Bay Rays that will land them either utilityman Ben Zobrist or lefty starter David Price — or even both.

Heyman notes that the Mariners’ ownership is “very big” on bringing in players who want to be in Seattle, which may be a factor in landing Price. This past winter when his name came up in trade rumors to Seattle, Price’s agent stated that his client would not sign a long-term deal in Seattle.

To land one of the two players, Heyman suggests Seattle would part ways with Nick Franklin — who is essentially a younger version of Zobrist and is from Orlando.
