(1090 The Fan) — The entire “Legion of Boom” will be featured on the new Madden NFL 15 start screen, EA sports announced Friday.
In addition to showcasing Seahawks All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman, the game’s start screen now features his teammates Byron Maxwell, Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas. The decision was announced after a number of fans — and Richard Sherman himself — called for the rest of the Seahawks’ secondary to share the cover.
Sherman took to his Twitter profile to post the news and share his gratitude:
“I’ve been trying to get the Legion of Boom on the cover, and EA has been fighting me,” Sherman said after winning the fan-voted Madden 15 cover competition in June. “So if anybody wants to start a petition to get the Legion of Boom on the cover, here it is, here’s an open invitation.”
Seahawks fan Jason Coiner started a change.org petition, requesting that EA Sports feature the rest of Seattle’s secondary on the game cover. The petition had 9,000 signatures by June 25th.
EA Sports, creators of the NFL Madden franchise, issued a statement saying:
“At E3 this year, we spoke a lot about our commitment to putting our players first. We want to engage in a two-way dialogue with our fans, so together, we can make our games better…
This year, fans voted Super Bowl Champion Richard Sherman onto the cover of Madden NFL 15. Since the announcement in June, there’s been quite a groundswell from Seattle fans. You guys want the Legion of Boom on the cover and there’s even an online petition. So, why haven’t we changed the cover to include the most dominate D in the league? While we’ve looked into it, it’s proven to be very difficult…
We wanted to give the LOB their just due, and do it in a way that was special—a way where millions of fans would see it every single day, just like a cover. Historically, the start screen in Madden (and all our EA SPORTS games) has featured our cover art. This year, we’re going to feature the entire Legion of Boom on the welcome screen. One of the major areas of focus for Madden NFL 15is defense, and what better way to introduce you to the game than with the guys who are changing the face of defense in the NFL…“
Sherman beat out Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck in the vote.
Fans can purchase Madden NFL 15 when it hits stores on August 26th.
