Fire Erupts At Substation Near Seattle Center

SEATTLE (AP) — Firefighters are pumping foam on a fire at a City Light substation near the Seattle Center.

Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore says there were multiple reports of the fire at 10:05 a.m. Wednesday, and firefighters arrived to find a large plume of black smoke. He says 13 firefighters are trying to smother the fire with foam.

Moore says City Light says all of its workers are accounted for, so there are no injuries.

Seattle City Light spokesman Roberto Bonaccorso says the fire is burning a capacitor bank, which regulates current.

He says the fire has caused a power outage for 325 customers, including the KeyArena and Seattle Space Needle.
