Elias Recalled From Tacoma, Jones Sent Down

(1090 The Fan) — Left-handed pitcher Roenis Elias has been recalled from Triple-A Tacoma and will start in Monday’s Mariners game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The 26-year-old rookie made one start for the Rainiers last week in New Orleans in which he threw five no-hit innings and struck out six. Elias had been optioned to Tacoma after earning the win for the Mariners on August 7 against the Chicago White Sox.

In 2014, the lefty is 9-9 with a 4.14 ERA and ranks second among Major League rookie pitchers in games started (23), second in innings (134.2) and fourth in strikeouts (122).

To make room on the 25-man roster, outfielder James Jones has been sent down to the Rainiers.
