PORTLAND (CBS Seattle) — One Great Dane had a ruff time after eating more than 40 socks.
KOIN-TV reports that a 3-year-old Great Dane underwent surgery after an X-ray showed the dog’s stomach was severely distended because he ate 43 ½ socks, causing him to vomit constantly.
The dog’s surgery took place at the DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital in Portland.
“Whether it’s an anxiety thing when they’re missing their owners and the smell of the person on the clothing attracts them, or they’re mad, who knows,” animal hospital surgeon Ashley Magee told KOIN. “But we do remove articles of clothing often from dogs, but this certainly is a record holder.”
The dog recovered quickly after having all the socks removed from his stomach, going back home a day after the surgery.
The dog’s X-ray also earned the animal hospital second place in the 2014 X-Ray Contest Winners from The Veterinary Practice News, according to KOIN.
The clinic won $500 and the money will go to their fund that helps low-income families pay for emergency surgeries for their pets.
