Seattle (AP)/(CBS Seattle) — Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant was arrested Wednesday during a protest at Alaska Airlines headquarters in SeaTac, Washington.
Organizers were protesting the airline company’s efforts to fight the $15 minimum wage, according to KING5.
Sawant, a member of the Socialist Alternative party, has been an outspoken supporter of Seattle’s minimum wage ordinance.
Earlier this month, Airlines for America — an airline industry trade organization, of which Alaska Airlines Inc. holds membership — sued the port in federal court in Seattle, saying the port is unlawfully imposing requirements on airlines that conflict with federal and state laws and labor agreements.
In response to the lawsuit, the Port of Seattle says it has the authority under Washington law to increase the minimum wage for some workers at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
