Sheriff Believes 2 Vancouver Church Fires Were Arson

VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — Clark County fire investigators say two church fires this week were intentionally set but they do not know yet whether the fires were related.

Clark County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Thursday that the early morning fires happened within 24 hours of each other and damaged two churches in the Vancouver area.

The first occurred just before 3 a.m. Wednesday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ. The second fire happened around 3 a.m. Thursday at the Liberty Bible Church of the Nazarene, located several miles away.

Clark County Sheriff Chuck Atkins is asking all churches, synagogues, mosques and other houses of worship to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
