Pride Flag Raised In Front Of Washington Capitol

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — A rainbow flag was raised in front of the Washington state Capitol to mark the start of gay pride month, and was immediately lowered to half mast to mark last weekend’s mass shooting at a central Florida nightclub.

Gov. Jay Inslee was joined by members of Capital City Pride and others from the LGBT community Wednesday. After the raising and lowering of the flag, a moment of silence was observed in honor of the victims.

A gunman wielding an assault-type rifle and a handgun opened fire inside Pulse, a crowded gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, early Sunday, leaving at least 49 people dead in the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
