Former UW, Blazers Star Brandon Roy Takes Head Coaching Job At Nathan Hale High School

SEATTLE (CBS) — Former NBA player Brandon Roy will take over as head coach of Nathan Hale’s basketball team this fall.

Chris Fetters of Dawgman.com broke the news Friday afternoon. The Tacoma News Tribune’s Christian Caple has since confirmed.

Roy was a former Washington star who played for the Portland Trail Blazers from 2006-2011 and for the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2012-13, until he was forced to retire due to a series of knee injuries.

The hiring of Roy isn’t the only big news for the Seattle prep landscape: Michael Porter — one of the nation’s top basketball recruits, and the son of Washington assistant coach Michael Porter  — has since announced via Instagram that he will be attending Nathan Hale. Porter will be joined by his brother, Jontay (who has already committed to Washington).

Next stop...Nathan Hale 😈🙏🏽
