FRESNO, Calif. – The Tacoma Rainiers (43-32) won their fourth-consecutive game with a 1-0 decision over the Fresno Grizzlies (36-38) on Saturday night at Chukchansi Park.
Tacoma starting pitcher Cody Martin (6-5) turned in 7.0 innings of scoreless ball for the Rainiers, earning his sixth win of the season. He held the Grizzlies to two hits, issued no walks, and struck out four.
The Rainiers scored the only run of the game in the top of the fifth inning on a two-out, one-run single to left field from Guillermo Heredia to score Dario Pizzano, giving Tacoma the 1-0 lead.
Kraig Sitton and Casey Coleman combined to hold Fresno scoreless on one hit over the final 2.0 frames. The pair notched two strikeouts, while issuing two walks. Coleman earned his third save of the year.
Tacoma left-hander Brad Mills (3-2, 4.24) and Fresno lefty Tommy Shirley (5-4, 4.97) will square off as the Rainiers and Grizzlies continue their series tomorrow, Sunday, June 26. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. PT.
