Gas Leak Forces Parts Of Pike Place Market To Evacuate

SEATTLE (AP) — Some parts of Seattle’s iconic Pike Place Market were evacuated briefly after a natural gas leak was reported nearby.

The Seattle Times reports a Puget Sound Energy line was struck by a third-party contractor at 1901 Western Avenue just after noon Tuesday. Seattle firefighters and PSE responders came to the scene and evacuated some parts of the market for about 45 minutes.

Fire officials say monitors did not pick up any signs of gas.

Normal operations have resumed at the market.
