(CBS) — At least 75 people were killed and dozens more injured when a truck rammed into a crowd of more than 100,000 people who were celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, France.
A chilling video posted on CBS News shows the large, white truck speeding up as it nears the crowd.
French officials confirmed the driver of the truck was shot and killed during the attack. However, according to a local daily newspaper Nice-Matine, the truck managed to travel more than two kilometers (or, 1.2 miles) before being stopped.
The White House released a statement from President Barack Obama, who condemned “in the strongest terms what appears to be a horrific terrorist attack.”
“We stand in solidarity and partnership with France,” the statement adds.
Presumptive republican presidential nominee Donald Trump postponed his Friday press conference, during which time he was to announce his choice for Vice President.
