Did you know that the all-new Malibu for 2016 is one of the top ten selling cars in America?
The Malibu has been in the Chevy lineup since 1964. Over 10 million copies have been sold globally since the 60’s.
After a week with the newest Malibu I can see why it’s so darn popular. The ride is much improved as compared to the previous generation, and the Malibu has lost about 300 pounds.
You will notice the Malibu has grown about four inches in the wheelbase department. It’s roomier than a Honda Accord or the Toyota Camry.
One of the many new offerings of the Malibu is the Teen Driver feature that gives parents driving stats and encourages safety belt use. Big brother, mother and father are watching you junior!
The 2016 Malibu comes with two engine choices. A new 160-horsepower, turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, or you can spend a lot more coin and upgrade to the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cinder engine that gives you a 90 horsepower bump. GM’s first 8-speed transmission is nice but I did get a little clunk and sputter during a few stops and starts.
The interior is nice, but not as well put together and harmonious as some of the Chevy’s mid-sized competition like the Ford Fusion, or Mazda 6. On the other hand, Chevy has come up with a great infotainment system called My Link. You can get a 7 or 8 inch color touch screen. There’s also LTE connectivity with a Wi-Fi hotspot. Pretty cool. You can also hook up Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Both great systems to remove some of the distraction from all of the technology surrounding you in a modern car.
The Malibu is a family sedan and it drives like one. The ride is soft and comfortable. It’s not a boat like American cars of the past but it’s not a BMW either. The steering is pretty spot on, and four-wheel ABS brakes are more than competent.
Gas mileage for my 2-liter four cylinder test car comes in at an impressive 33-highway, 22-city for an average of 26 MPG. Along with ten standard airbags and the available driver confidence package, this all new Malibu is very impressive indeed. The best Chevy in years.
Price for my 2016 2LZ was 34,285.00.
