EVERETT, September 2, 2016 – Nick Holowko and Jarret Tyszka each had a goal and an assist Friday night to lead the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 3-1 victory over the Everett Silvertips at the Silvertips Holiday Inn Preseason Classic at Xfinity Arena.
This was the first game of the preseason for the T-Birds. Classic play will continue Saturday at 3:00pm against the Tri-City Americans. The Classic concludes Sunday at 11:30am against the Spokane Chiefs.
The T-Birds took a 1-0 lead at 7:08 of the first period. Donovan Neuls carried the puck down the left wing and into the Everett zone. Neuls cut into the left circle and beat Everett goalie Carter Hart over the right shoulder with a wrist shot. Jarret Tyszka had the only assist on the goal.
Seattle extended the lead to 2-0 at 11:52 of the first. Scott Eansor passed the puck to Nick Holowko to create a three-on-two break. Holowko crossed the blue line and passed the puck to Tyszka who skated into the right circle. Tyszka brought the puck to his forehand and put a wrist shot over Hart’s right shoulder.
The T-Birds took a 3-0 lead at 4:39 of the third period on a power-play goal from Nick Holowko. Bryan Allbee took a slap shot from the left point that rebounded off the end boards right to Holowko at the right post. Holowko caught the puck on his backhand and in one motion slid the puck under Hart. Cavin Leth had the second assist.
Everett got on the board at 9:43 of the third on a goal from Noah Juulsen. Brian King had the only assist.
Everett outshot Seattle 31-25 in the game.
Seattle goalie Carl Stankowski stopped 30 of 31 shots.
Hart made 22 saves on 25 shots.
The T-Birds next preseason appearance after the Classic will be in Kennewick at the Red Lion Hotels’ Preseason Tournament at the Toyota Center. The T-Birds will play the Kootenay Ice on Friday, September 9, at 3pm and face the Tri-City Americans on Saturday, September 10, at 7:05pm
The T-Birds will conclude their preseason schedule with a home-and-home series against the Silvertips. The T-Birds host the Silvertips on Friday, September 16, at 7:35pm at ShoWare Center and then are in Everett on Saturday, September 17 at 7:05pm.
The T-Birds open the 2016-17 season in Portland against the Winterhawks on Saturday, September 24, at 7:00pm in Portland.
The T-Birds home opener for the 2016-17 season is Saturday, October 1, against the Portland Winterhawks at 7:05pm at ShoWare Center.
