Americans Double Up T-Birds

KENNEWICK, September 10, 2016 – The Tri-City Americans defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-2 Saturday night in Kennewick at the Red Lion Hotels’ Preseason Tournament at the Toyota Center.

The T-Birds are now 3-2-0-0 in the preseason. They will conclude their preseason schedule with a home-and-home series against the Silvertips. The T-Birds host the Silvertips on Friday, September 16, at 7:35pm at ShoWare Center and then are in Everett on Saturday, September 17 at 7:05pm.

Tri-City took a 1-0 lead at 3:10 of the second period on a goal from Jusso Valimaki. Jordan Roy and Riley Sawchuk had the assists.

The T-Birds tied the game 1-1 at 9:07 of the second on a five-on-three power-play goal from Ethan Bear. Sami Moilanen and Donovan Neuls assisted on Bear’s second goal of the preseason.

The two teams traded goals early in the third period. Morgan Geekie scored a power-play goal at 1:15 to give the Americans a 2-1 lead. Alexander True scored at 2:31 for the T-Birds to tie the game 2-2.

The Americans converted twice more on the power play to get their third and fourth goals. Parker Wotherspoon gave the Americans a 3-2 lead at 8:33 of the third. Geekie scored his second of the night, at 13:07, to make it a 4-2 Tri-City lead.

Seattle goalie Logan Flodell had 21 saves on 25 shots.

Tri-City goalie Nicholas Sanders made 18 saves on 20 shots.

The T-Birds open the 2016-17 season in Portland against the Winterhawks on Saturday, September 24, at 7:00pm in Portland.

The T-Birds home opener for the 2016-17 season is Saturday, October 1, against the Portland Winterhawks at 7:05pm at ShoWare Center.
