SEATTLE (CBS) — Sarai Lara, a 16-year-old high school student and cancer-survivor, was one of five people killed in a shooting in a Washington state shopping center Friday evening.
A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting, WSP confirms.
According to The Seattle Times, Lara was at Cascade Mall with her mother and younger sister when they split up. Lara went to the Macy’s to shop for pants. Lara’s mother attempted to get to the Macy’s to find Sarai after news of the shooting spread through the mall, but was blocked from entering.
Lara’s family was informed of her death at 2:00 a.m. Saturday.
Around 7:00 p.m., the gunman entered the Macy’s and opened fire, killing four women and critically-injuring another man (who was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries).
