KENT, October 12, 2016 – Seattle Thunderbirds general manager Russ Farwell today announced center Elijah Brown and goalie Carl Stankowski have been selected to play for Team Canada at the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Brown and Stankowski are two of 66 players selected by Hockey Canada to represent their country at the tournament. Next week Hockey Canada will assign the 66 players to Team Canada White, Team Canada Black and Team Canada Red.

The World Under-17 Hockey Challenge takes place from October 30 to November 5 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The Essar Centre and John Rhodes Community Centre will play host to the eight teams who will play over the six days of competition. Team Canada Black, Team Canada White, the Czech Republic and United States will play in Group A. Team Canada Red, Finland, Russia and Sweden will comprise Group B.

“This is a big recognition for both players as it places them among the very top players in all of Canada for their age group,” said Farwell. “Both have had very good starts here with our team and I am sure they will do well in this tournament. We will miss them during our trip through Saskatchewan but this is a good opportunity for them to prove their status against their peers.”

Brown was the T-Birds first round bantam pick in 2015 and has played in five games this season and has two assists.

Stankowski was the T-Birds second round bantam pick in 2015 and has played one game this season. Stankowski made 15 saves in a 4-2 victory over the Vancouver Giants on September 30.

The 66 players were selected by Ryan Jankowski, Hockey Canada’s director of player personnel, with assistance from Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence management group lead for under-17, Dale DeGray, and regional scouts Carl Bouchard (Quebec), Barclay Branch (Ontario), Wade Klippenstein (West), Kevin Mitchell (Atlantic), and Darrell Woodley (Ontario).
