The Seahawks and Falcons have been engaged in a back-and-forth battle all afternoon. The ‘Hawks jumped out to a 17-3 lead in the first half and then Atlanta stormed back with three third quarter touchdown passes from Matt Ryan to take a 24-17 lead.
Then, Russell Wilson led a nine-play, 70-yard drive that was capped off by a Christine Michael plunge into the end zone from a yard out. Doing simple math, that should tie the game right? Well, not so fast.
So, after the blocked PAT, the Seahawks still trailed 24-23. On the Falcons next drive, the secondary made a game changing play.
That gave the Seahawks the ball at midfield. Seven plays later, the Seahawks trotted kicker Steven Hauschka out for a 54-yard field goal attempt. Despite missing a field goal earlier in the game and the blocked PAT, Hauschka was able to maitain confidence and nail the field goal to give the ‘Hawks a 26-24 lead with 1:57 left.
