It’s hard to compete with the best Seahawks players in franchise history, but our pick for No. 1 on the ‘Best Seahawks Draft Picks’ list owns his spot because of where he was selected. That player? Quarterback Russell Wilson.
The Seattle Seahawks drafted their franchise quarterback in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft — behind Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Ryan Tannehill, Brandon Weeden, and Brock Osweiller.
Of those quarterbacks, Wilson has the highest career quarterback rating (99.6), the best career record (56-23-1), the highest career completion percentage (64.9), career rushing yards (2,689) the second-most career touchdowns (127) and he’s the only quarterback on this list to never have missed a game.
To top it all off, Wilson did all of this while being one of the lowest-paid quarterbacks in the league (less than Blaine Gabbert, Charlie Whitehurst, and Bruce Gradowski). Wilson may have cashed in with a huge contract extension in 2015, but the initial bargain he provided Seattle for the first three years of his career was a large part of how the Seahawks were able to sign on so many talented players — and earn the first Super Bowl victory in franchise history.
