FRESNO, Calif. – The Tacoma Rainiers (65-68) narrowly avoided being no-hit in a 1-0 loss to the Fresno Grizzlies (73-60) on Saturday night at Chukchansi Park.
Third baseman Danny Muno (1×3) collected the Rainiers only hit of the night, a single to left field with one out in the top of the eighth that broke up the Grizzlies no-hit bid.
Fresno collected the only run of the evening in the bottom of the opening frame, collecting an early 1-0 lead that they would hold on to for the remainder of the contest.
Tacoma starting pitcher Andrew Moore (3-4) took the loss after allowing one run on six hits over 4.0 innings of work. He walked two and struck out three along the way. Jonathan Aro (1.0 IP), Tyler Cloyd (2.0 IP), and Thyago Vieira (1.0 IP) all tossed scoreless relief outings and held the Grizzlies to a combined three hits while striking out two.
The shutout loss officially eliminated the Rainiers from playoff contention.
The Rainiers and Grizzlies wrap up their series with a 5:05 p.m. PT finale on Sunday night. Tacoma right-hander Sam Gaviglio (3-5, 3.55) and Fresno righty Trent Thornton (6-4, 5.44) will start.
