Washington voters have narrowly approved an initiative that clears the way for up to 40 charter schools to be opened in the state over the next five years.
This has been the year of big names and big money for Washington’s election. A record $157 million has poured into state-level races, including funds from Bill Gates, Paul Allen, Rick Steves and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos.
Bill and Melinda Gates have donated $500,000 to the campaign to uphold the state’s gay marriage law.

The campaign to bring charter schools to Washington raised nearly $5 million in cash contributions during the past six weeks, including donations from Bill Gates and Paul Allen.

Last week the Bill and Melinda Gates announced that they were going to purchase 50 pounds of fake poop to use at their Reinvent the Toilet Fair on August 14 and 15.
