Developers in Seattle have been leading the U.S. in building hundreds of tiny apartments to cater to solo young workers, retirees who prefer city living, students and others looking to downsize. Now, some residents are complaining that micro-apartments crowd too many people together, aren’t compatible with some neighborhoods, don’t encourage people to put down roots, and circumvent a design review process meant to get public input.

One man was wounded and a suspect was arrested shortly after a shooting and robbery in downtown Seattle Friday morning, police said. Spokesman Mark Jamieson said it began as an attempted robbery at a jewelry store near Westlake Center around 10:30 a.m.
A state study suggests that even a modest toll would result in traffic diverting away from a tunnel on the Seattle waterfront onto city streets. But the state could meet the $200 million it is contributing to the $3.2 billion replacement project for the aging, earthquake-vulnerable viaduct. The tolls would also pay for maintenance.
