The Sounders advanced to the MLS Cup Western Conference finals with a 0-0 draw against FC Dallas in the second leg of the conference semifinals. The two-leg series finished tied 1-1 on aggregate but Seattle moved on thanks to its road goal in the first game in Dallas. Road goals were implemented as a tiebreaker this year.
Clint Dempsey scored twice to lead Seattle Sounders FC to a 3-2 victory over FC Dallas on Saturday night.
The Sounders (15-7-11, 56 points), who already have clinched their fourth straight MLS playoff berth, climbed into a second-place tie with Real Salt Lake in the Western Conference. Both teams have one game remaining.
Seattle controlled the majority of the action through the first 20-plus minutes of the second half, but it was FC Dallas’ Jackson who had the best opportunity to snap the 1-1 tie, in the 69th minute.
